Wilma Haney

Leopold, Indiana Wilma K. Haney, 96, passed away at 5:39 AM Wednesday, September 8, 2010, with loved ones by her side. A lifelong native of Leopold, she was born October 1, 1913, daughter of the late Peter Mathias and Mary Ann (Wheatley) Ward. Wilma was a 1933 graduate of Leopold High School. On November 5, 1935 she married Waitman Taylor ""Jiggs"" Haney at St. Augustine Catholic Church. They made their home in Leopold where they raised their three children. She became Postmaster of the Leopold Post Office in 1937, serving as Postmaster for 43 years out of her home until retiring in 1980. Wilma was a founding member of the Central Perry Volunteer Fire Department. She was a member of United States League of Postmasters, and a lifelong member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 67 years Waitman Taylor ""Jiggs"" Haney, brother Albert Ward, sister-in-law Olive Ward, and nephews Donnie Lee and Roy Ward. Surviving are two daughters, Betty Ann Jarboe and Linda Sue Kieser, Tell City; son, Pat Haney, Sr., Leopold; seven grandchildren, Jackie Lockridge, Jill Peter, Dean Flamion, Michelle Braunecker, Kimberly Haney-Howell, Pat Haney Jr., and Jeff Haney; great grandchildren, Matt Lockridge, Ross and Victor Peter, Kirstie Deaton, Brandon Flamion, Molly and Bo Braunecker, Tyler and Taylor Howell, Brooke and Bryce Haney, Cort and Mattie Haney; and great-great grandchildren, Max, Molly and Morgan Lockridge and Hunter Deaton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 11, 2010, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Fr. Aaron Pfaff will officiate. Visitation will be on from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday and from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Saturday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Central Perry Volunteer Fire Department or St. Augustine Catholic Church.
