Tell City, Indiana –
Wilma C. Barnhart, 95, passed away on June 9, 2024, at Oakwood Health Campus.
She was born in Huntingburg, Indiana on May 18, 1929, to Walter and Adelia (Frick) Heim.
Wilma graduated from Huntingburg High School in 1947. On September 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to William E. Barnhart. They were married for 66 years before his death in 2016. Together, they opened Barnhart Furniture, formerly in Tell City, for 25 years before retiring in 1986. Wilma liked to decorate the store with Department 56 Snow Village and animated holiday characters in the picture windows with each window having its own theme, while Bill enjoyed putting fresh trees outside with white lights.
Wilma enjoyed cooking and baking, sewing, knitting and crocheting, mowing grass and planting a garden every spring. She always looked forward to spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Wilma was a member of Hoosier Heights Country Club, a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, Tell City and was also a former member of the Perry County Memorial Hospital Foundation Board.
Surviving are her children, Priscilla Campbell, Indianapolis, Libby Gengelbach (Lee), Haubstadt, Peggy Barnhart, Tell City and Doug Barnhart (Karen), Louisville; grandchildren, Kim Gengelbach (Mark Herrmann), Kevin Gengelbach (Jenna), Chad Lethig (Carmen), Kristi Nor (Erik), Tracey Hagmann (Bryan), Eric Foury (Angie), Jared Foury (Shelby), Caleb Barnhart (Jon Meinen) and Gabriel Barnhart (Jenna) and 16 great grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were parents; husband, Bill Barnhart; great-granddaughter, Emma Nor; sisters, Dorothy Aufderhar, Mildred Springston and Evelyn Meyerholtz and a brother, Donald Heim.
Wilma’s family would like to thank Oakwood Health Campus and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and treating their mother like their own. It will always be remembered and appreciated.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM CDT on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Sheila Rearden will officiate.
The visitation will be on Thursday from 2:00-4:00 PM CDT at the funeral home.
The burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery in Huntingburg at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Oakwood Health Campus or Heart to Heart Hospice.
