Wilhemina Dye

Tell City, Indiana Wilhemina Dye, 76, made her heavenly transition on August 9, 2021 at her home in Fortville, Indiana. Wilhemina made her arrival into the world on the tail end of World War II on May 26, 1945 in Lynchburg, South Carolina, during a time when veterans were returning stateside and women were starting to leave the home to work factory jobs while their husbands were away. Twenty years later, when Neil Armstrong made his historic step on the moon and during the height of the Vietnam War, Wilhemina made her own significant mark when she married the late veteran, Granville McCoy Dye in 1969. Daughter of the late Pearl (Hankinson) and William Thomas Fleming, Wilhemina was one of the state's essential workers for four decades. She retired as a case worker for the State of Indiana in 2008, during which time she served as a valuable resource to thousands of Perry County residents who relied on Medicaid assistance to maintain a decent quality of life. Wilhemina was a longtime member of Tell City First Church of the Nazarene and the American Legion Post #213 Auxiliary. Post retirement, she spent her time, reading, gardening and volunteering while selflessly doting on her two grandchildren, 13-year-old Evan Dye and five-year-old Elise Dye. Wilhemina is survived by her son, Keary Dye, daughter-in-law, Simone Dye, both of Fishers, Indiana, her grandchildren Evan and Elise and her sister, Elvertta F-Coker of Lynchburg, South Carolina Preceding her in death, other than her parents, was her husband, Granville McCoy Dye, in 1996 and brothers, William and Mack Fleming. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Saturday 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Pastor Charles Areson will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Tell City Church of the Nazarene or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
