Wayne Garrett

March 7, 1938 — January 20, 2023

Tobinsport, Indiana - Wayne Garrett, 84, passed away on January 20, 2023, at Brickyard Health Care in Tell City. Wayne was born in Cannelton, Indiana on March 7, 1938. Wayne was a standout basketball player during his youth. After graduating from Cannelton High School in 1956, he joined the United States Army, where he served with distinction in the military police. He was a member of Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142. He worked in construction for most of his life as a crane operator and had worked at Schwab Safe and Camp Koch Girl Scout Camp, near Cannelton. In his later years, Wayne found great peace and enjoyment in the quiet town of Tobinsport where he was owner of River Haven Camps along the Ohio River. This is where Wayne spent his final years. Wayne was known for his giving nature, quick wit and love of a good laugh. He was a kind and compassionate person who would always go out of his way to help others. His grandson likes to joke that he would give you the middle finger and the shirt off his back. He was a lighthearted and enjoyable presence, always bringing joy and laughter to those around him. In his free time, Wayne would indulge in a cold Miller Lite and reminiscence about life with loved ones. He also had a sweet tooth and loved nothing more than enjoying a delicious piece of chocolate. He was a fan of TV shows and films of his genre and loved a good western. Surviving is his wife Shirley A. (Brinksneader) Garrett, Tobinsport; his daughters, Sheri Davis (Steve), Auburn, CA, Marvenia Kincaid (Danny), Tobinsport, Shayla Powers (Keith), Cannelton and Shannon Sturgeon (Troy Napier), Tobinsport; grandchildren, Ike Glenn (Michelle), Mark Kellems (Whitney), Brandon Powers (Leah), Kyle Powers (Rachel), Tora Walls (Brock Franzman), Marvin Walls (Molly Haaff) and Gracie Sturgeon; several great grandchildren and a brother, Bill Garrett (Judy), Cannelton. Preceding him in death were his parents, William Vernon Garrett and Agnes (Neyenhaus) Curl, a grandson, Wyatt Cronin and a sister, Wanda Raber. Per Wayne's wishes, there will be no services.
