Wanda R. Winchell, 84, passed away September 18, 2024, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery in Ferdinand.
She was born in Tell City, Indiana on August 17, 1940, to the late Kenneth Seifert and Myrtle (Anson) Ahl.
Wanda retired as Postmaster from the Rome Post Office, where she worked for over 20 years. She was a member of Rome United Methodist Church and Order of Eastern Star #272.
She enjoyed riding horses, fishing, camping and watching westerns and CNN. Wanda also was a firefighter with the Rome Volunteer Fire Department, which she and her family helped establish.
Surviving are her children, Rita Ramsey (Lewis), and Keith B. Whitehead (Dorothy); grandchildren, James Ramsey (Tonya), Shane Ramsey (Lei Ann), Jamie Zellers (Nick), Destiny Webb (Bruce) and Brandon Whitehead; great grandchildren, including Savannah Kunkel, for who she helped raise; sister, Betty Whitehead and brothers, Marvin Seifert (Betty) and Jerry Seifert (Theresa).
Other than her parents, Wanda is preceded in death by her husband James H. “Jim” Winchell; a brothers, Charles Blaine Seifert, in infancy and Kenneth “Bud” Seifert; sister-in-law, Linda Seifert and brother-in-law, Robert Whitehead.
Services will be held at 12:00 PM CDT on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Brother Roger Jarboe will officiate. Burial will follow in Wegenast Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 AM until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rome United Methodist Church or Rome Cemetery Association.
