Virginia "Ginny" (Hartz) Nelson, 88, died Sunday, December 24, 2017. She was born in Perry County on January 18, 1929 to the late Edward and Mary Jane (Minto) Hartz. Preceding her in death were her husband of 67 years Vernel "Dude" Nelson, sister Evelyn (Hartz) Ziegler, and brothers Edward "Bud" Hartz, Magnus L. Hartz, and Calvin J. Hartz. Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Ewing (Clay) and one son, John David Nelson, all of Tell City, IN, sister Ruth (Hartz) Minnette, of Evansville, IN. sister-in-law Mildred Hartz, of Evansville, IN, and Betty Hartz, of Tell City, IN. She was blessed with four grandchildren: Micki Kidder (Scott), Matthew Ewing (Vanessa), Trevor Nelson (Stella) and Trent Nelson (Maddie), and three great-grandchildren: Grace, Ben, and Clayton Kidder. Ginny attended Tell City High School and then went on to a career with General Electric, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Tell City, IN. She was particularly dedicated to the Daughters of Isabella and American Legion Post 213 Auxiliary, where she offered countless hours of volunteerism honoring all veterans who served their country. The family would like to extend its gratitude to the many friends and family who have shared steadfast friendship and joy with Ginny. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church, Tell City. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 27th from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City, IN. There will be a Daughters of Isabella memorial service at 6:00 pm on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 824 S Jefferson St., Tell City, IN 47586.
