Victor Carter

Cannelton, Indiana Victor F. Carter Jr., 93 of Cannelton, passed away on Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at Golden Living Center in Tell City, Indiana. Victor was born in Hawesville, Kentucky on August 21, 1919, son of the late Victor F. Carter Sr. and Tom Ann (Taylor) Carter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna (Polk) Carter in April, 2012; step mother, Virgie (Butler) Carter and a sister, Mary Stella Elliot. Victor served in the United States Army in WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service in the North African Campaign. Prior to the war, he was a member of the CCC Camp in Pocatella, Idaho. Victor retired in 1982 from J.H. Rudolph Company and enjoyed fishing, gardening, arrowhead hunting and being with friends and family, especially with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Victor is survived by a son, Bary Carter (Sharon), Tell City, sisters, Ginny Brandle, Hawesville, Kentucky, Emmaline McDaniel (James), Owensboro, Kenucky, Monzella Smith (Joe), Cloverport, Kentucky and a brother, Darrell Carter, Cuba, Missouri; grandchildren, Diane Alvey (Kevin), Newburgh, Chris Carter (Rhonda), Tell City and Dan Carter (Aislin), Newburgh and six great grandchildren, Tyler Carter, Devin Alvey, Chelsea Eddleman, Kendall Carter, Matthew Alvey and Kaden Carter. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel with Rev. Mike Thompson and Pastor Todd Bussey officiating, with burial in Serenity Hills Cemetery, Hawesville, Kentucky, where the American Legion Post #213 will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation will be from 3:00 until 8:00 PM Friday and 9:00 until 11:00 Saturday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
