Tell City, Indiana Vernie R. Harpenau, 71, passed away on July 18, 2021 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. He was born in Tell City on January 7, 1950 to Albert and Esther (Boehm) Harpenau. Vernie was a 1968 graduate of Perry Central High School's first graduating class and was a member of the Indiana National Guard. On October 29, 1983, Vernie was united in marriage to Charlotte (Brake) Foutz. He was a devoted husband and loving father and doting grandfather. Vernie enjoyed being outdoors on his tractor, tending to his garden, taking the grandkids for rides on his Gator and tinkering in his garage. He retired from Boilermakers Local #374, in 2005 and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. Vernie will be lovingly missed and remembered by his wife of 37 years, Charlotte Harpenau, Tell City; his son, Kyle Harpenau (Kassi), Tell City and daughters, Cindy Voegele (Scott),Naperville, Cathy Gelarden (Phil), Cannelton and Beth Foutz, Owensboro, KY; grandchildren, Aurora, Louis and Elanora Harpenau, Tell City, Lauren and Alex Voegele, Naperville, IL, Zach Toothman (Erin), Plainfield, IN, Kenny Saalman and Michael Saalman (Amanda), all of Indianapolis, Baylie Richter (Bradley), Paige Schank (Clinton), Bria Gelarden (Tyler Cash) and Laurie Saalman, all of Tell City; seven great-granddaughters and a brother, Jerry Harpenau (Juanita), Troy. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers, Robert, Harvey and Stanley Harpenau. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Luke Waugh will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
