Tell City, Indiana - Urban J. Strobel, 84, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. He was born in Evanston, IN on March 26, 1932 to the late John and Anna (Phillips) Strobel. He was united in marriage on August 24, 1957 in Cannelton, IN to Mary L. Keiser, who preceded him in death in 2013. Also preceding him in death is a grandson, Benjamin Strobel, son-in-law, Allen Kempf and a sister, Ester Lennon. Urban was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving in the Korean War, working as an airplane mechanic. He had worked 29 years at Werner Motor Company, later earning a teaching certificate. He taught vocational auto mechanics at Ivy Tech in Tell City and Heritage Hills High School, where he retired with fond memories of his students. Urban was a lifelong member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Chrisney where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Porter and was very active with the annual picnic. At his passing he was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church. He was also a member of American Legion Post #213 and enjoyed farming and fishing. Surviving are his children, Mike Strobel (Erin) of Grandview, Dennis Strobel (Kathy) of Patronville, Bernie Strobel (Judy) of Grandview, Joanie Howland (Michael) of Tell City and Lee Ann Huebschman (Jay) of Evanston; sisters, Cleta Dauby, Irene Miller, and Marietta Collins, all of Tell City; a brother, Leo Strobel (Sharon) of Evanston; six grandchildren, Will Strobel, Matthew Strobel (Jessica), Robin Strobel (Natalie), Brandy Graves (Michael), Jeremy Kempf (Breanna) and Eric Frizzell (Trish); eight great-grandchildren, Harper and Henry, Noah, Isaac and Molly, Nolan and Andrew and Luke; and his little four-legged buddy, Speedy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. Pius Catholic Church in Troy. Father Sengole Thomas G. will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Thursday from 2:00-7:00 PM and Friday 8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
