Thomas R. McCart, Jr., 81, passed on December 5, 2023 in Evansville, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Indianapolis on July 20, 1942, son of Thomas “Raymond”, Sr. and Blanche (Rhodes) McCart.
A 1960 graduate of Cathedral High School, he earned his Bachelors of Science Degree at Indiana University and served his country during Vietnam in the United States Navy.
Tom had a 35-year banking career where he worked in Indianapolis before moving to Tell City National Bank and later with Fifth Third Bank, retiring in 2001 as President. He was a member of the Indiana Bankers Association.
Tom's passion was to love his family and be of service. He lived his philanthropy on a daily basis. He was active in his community, whether serving on boards of directors or volunteering directly. Some of his memberships included Perry County Development Corporation, Perry County Council on Aging, Tell City Kiwanis, Swiss Colonization, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Southern Indiana Rehabilitation Services and Glennwood Hills Camp and Perry County Republican Party where he was Chairman for several years.
For more than forty years Tom was a friend to many battling substance abuse, offering countless hours of his time to anyone struggling with addiction. He led AA classes and sponsored many during his time in a program he credited with saving his own life.
He volunteered his coaching skills with Perry County Special Olympics and, for over ten years, Tell City High School’s Track and Field program as well as cross country.
Surviving is his wife of 28 years, Debbie McCart, Tell City; step children, Vicki Freeman (Eric), Newburgh and Bryan Taylor (Stephanie), Tell City; grandchildren, Bryn, Josie and Sebastian Freeman and Bryleigh Taylor; nephews, John McCart (Courtnay), Cincinnati and Tom McCart (Kristi), Tampa, FL and a niece, Molly Gibson (Johnny), Orlando, FL. He also became quite the dog father of Susie, his fur baby.
Preceding him in death were his parents and siblings, Jody McCart and Wanda VanDeVanter.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church. Father Kolbe Wolniakowski will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2:00-7:00 PM and Saturday from 8:30-9:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Perry County Community Foundation or Catholic Charities.
