Thomas Schaeffer

Tell City, Indiana - Thomas A. Schaeffer, 89, passed away November 26, 2015 at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Troy, Indiana, April 24, 1926, son of the late Thomas and Henrietta (Jarboe) Schaeffer. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Mary Snyder; brother, Joseph Schaeffer; daughter, Rita Dale and grandson, Charles A. Dale. Tom was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving from 1944 through 1946. He was united in marriage on October 22, 1949, in Mitchell, Indiana, to Mildred Sturgeon. Tom was a member of Deep River Church of Christ in Hobart, Indiana, where he served as treasurer and Deacon for 23 years. He was a member of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #20 for 58 years, member of Independent Order of Foresters and American Legion Post #213. Tom enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Mildred Schaeffer; sons, William Schaeffer (Karen), Kouts, Indiana and Mark Schaeffer (Bonnie), Tell City; grandchildren, Jeanne Dale-Freeman, Shannon Brumfield (Jeff), Sandy Specker (Chris), Sharie Barker (James) and James Bickers (Gina) and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, November 30, 2015, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Lilly Dale Cemetery, where there will be military graveside rites. Bro. Roy Sturgeon will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Lilly Dale Cemetery.
