Tell City, Indiana - Gerald Flaherty, 86, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Oakwood Health Campus. He was born in Magnet, Indiana, on December 24, 1924. His parents were the late Thomas A. and Mary E. (Hartley) Flaherty. Also preceding him in death were his brothers, Carlisle, Leonard and Clyde Flaherty and a sister, Pauline Polston. Gerald married Maxine Cassidy on August 5, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Magnet. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He retired from Southern Indiana R.E.C. where he worked for over 21 years. After his retirement, he and his wife owned and operated the Snappy Grill, a restaurant formerly in Tell City. Gerald was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus # 1172 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939. He enjoyed square dancing, walking and spending time with his family. Surviving: Wife of 62 years, Maxine Flaherty; daughters, Lavonne Miller (Gary Gogel), Santa Claus and Sharilyn Franzman (Hal), Tell City; a son, Marlin Flaherty (Diane), St. Meinrad; a sister, Vestina Rudolph, Tell City; grandchildren, Julie Norman (Jim), Josh Flaherty (Sarah), Amy Flaherty, Brandi Franzman, Britt Franzman, Brooke Franzman, Brock Franzman, Brianne Lawalin (Derrick) and Megan Miller; great grandchildren, Trenton Franzman, Kendall Norman, Cameron Norman, Ilynd Lawalin, Baya Lawalin and Eli Gray A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery where there will be graveside services conducted by the VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM on Wednesday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. In lieu of flowers or memorial donations, the family requests that you take time to give hugs, prayers and share fond memories with your families.
