Sister Humphrey

Elsie was born February 11, 1914 in Perry County Indiana, daughter of the late John J. Litherland and Ludella Bolin Litherland. She was united in marriage on November 20, 1929 in Spencer, Indiana to Roy Humphrey who preceded her in death in 1982. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Reva Burden, a son, Leroy in infancy, a granddaughter, Debbie Burden, a brother, Phillip Litherland and three sisters, Zelma Hawkins, Della Sims and Ethel Delbert. Elsie was a lifelong member of Chestnut Grove Church of Jesus Christ where she pastored for many years, taught Sunday School and served as church administrator. She retired from the pulpit at the age of eighty. Elsie is survived by two daughters, Maxine Nelson, Tell City, Indiana Marilyn Brock, Tell City, Indiana Two sons, Vernon Eugene Humphrey, Cannelton, Indiana Gary Humphrey, Cannelton, Indiana One sister, Hazel Lahee, Tell City, Indiana Fourteen grandchildren, Vi Rust, Lois Dauby, Faith Damin, Tim and Doug Brock, Stephen, David, Donald, April and Daniel Humphrey, Barry, Mark, Dale and Billy Burden There are several great and great great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, May 12, 2008 at Huber Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Nix officiating. Burial is in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Sunday and 9:00 until 11:00 AM Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Fund at Golden Living Center or Chestnut Grove Church.
