Tell City, Indiana Shirley Louise Rogier, 82, of rural Tell City, died at 2:08 PM Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City. Mrs. Rogier was born in Los Angeles, California on November 30, 1924, daughter of the late Herman David Themar and Alice Diane (Drais) Themar. Her family relocated to Chicago, Illinois where she spent her childhood and young adult life, graduated from high school and attended college. She was united in marriage on September 5, 1946, in San Antonio, Texas to her husband of 56 years, Thomas W. Rogier who preceded her in death on November 30, 2002. She met Tom in Chicago through mutual friends while he was on leave from the military during World War II. Mrs. Rogier was a mother and homemaker. She worked for a short while at General Electric and at the Lauer Floral Shop in Tell City. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and St. Ann's Altar Society. She was also a member of the Oblates of St. Benedict at St. Meinrad. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, St. Marks Home Economics Club, Perry County Hospital Women's Auxiliary, Perry County Travel Club, and a former member of the Perry County Arts Council. Her first love in life was her faith in God, followed by the love for her family and home. She was a lifelong learner who was an avid reader, taught herself to read, write, and speak German so she could communicate with her German cousins. Within the past year she and her best friend, Mary Rogier, were studying the religions of the world. She enjoyed anything to keep her mind active including working on genealogy, scrap booking, and puzzling. However, the pastime she loved the most was putting the brush to the canvas and painting pictures, primarily portrait work. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tommy and Joe Rogier and her parents. Surviving are two daughters, Nanette DuPont of rural Tell City, Indiana and Christina Mangia of West Terre Haute, Indiana; four sons, Jim of Bossier City, Louisiana, John of St. Louis, Missouri, David of Ferdinand, Indiana and Paul of Huntingburg, Indiana; two brothers, John Themar of Tucson, Arizona and Bill Themar of Kennewick, Washington; 22 grandchildren, Tom Mangia, Michelle Mangia Bell, Pat, Dawn, Chad, and Julie DuPont, Maria Dupont Sweat, Scott Rogier, Kimberly Eastwood, Shawn Layton, John Erik, Stephanie, Joshua, Christopher, Andrea, Elizabeth, Marc, Phillip, and David Rogier, Milton, Kenia, and Vanessa Ramos; and 12 great grandchildren, Bailee, Leilah, Tavor, Tyce, Cambree, Grace, Sidney, Madeline, Lukas, Jakob, Kevin, and Matthew. Her sincere love, kindness and helpfulness will be remembered forever in our hearts. She was a very special mother, grandmother and sister who will be greatly missed. She lived what she preached; that is she lived one day at a time, making the most of each day and accepting and finding the best in everyone she met. May God bless her sweet precious heart.
