Tell City, Indiana - Sergeant First Class Barry E. Jarvis, 36, died on November 29, 2010, while conducting artillery registration during a training mission in the Pachir Wa Agam district, Combat Outpost Lonestar, Nangarhar province, Afghanistan. He was born November 24, 1974, in Tell City. Barry married Tina Norton on April 20, 1996, in Cannelton. He was a Cavalry Scout, who joined the Army in May, 1999 and arrived at Fort Campbell in May, 2009. He was assigned to Bravo Troop, 1st Squadron, 61st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Purple Heart; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Army Achievement Medal; Valorous Unit Award, Army Good Conduct Medal; Iraq Campaign Medal; Global War on Terrorism Service Medal; Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Ribbon; NATO Medal; Drill Sergeant Identification Badge; Combat Action Badge and Air Assault Badge. Barry enjoyed riding his Fat Boy Harley-Davidson motorcycle and participating in the H.O.G. motorcycle club. He is survived by his wife, Tina, daughters, Kitaira and Aleesha Jarvis, sons, Donovan and William Jarvis, Clarksville, Tennessee; mother, alma Jean Jarvis, Tell City; father; William Jarvis, Atlantic Beach, Florida; sisters, Rita Dickman, Newburgh and Tressie James, Tell City; brothers, Dan Jarvis, Huntington, Indiana, Ed Jarvis, Terlton, Oklahoma and Johnny Jarvis, Rockport; granddaughter, Kalyn Jarvis. A nephew, Logan James, preceded in him death. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 9, 2010, at Deer Creek Baptist Church, rural Tell City, with burial in the church cemetery where there will be full military rites. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and from 9:00 until 10:00 AM on Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jarvis Children's Education Fund in care of Fort Campbell Federal Credit Union, 2050 Lowe's Drive, Clarksville, TN 37040.
