Ruth Loesch

Tobinsport, Indiana - Ruth Edith (Burton) Loesch, 96, passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at Golden Living Center in Tell City. She was born Tobin Township, in Perry County, on September 27, 1914 to the late John and Kate (Polk) Burton. Ruth graduated in 1934 from Tobinport High School. Her class was the last class to attend Tobinsport High School. She then went on to graduate from Lockyear Business College in Evansville. She married Earl Loesch on September 9, 1939. They lived in Tobinsport where they operated their farm. She worked as secretary to the shipping clerk at Lehman Company of America until Earl went in the service in 1943. Ruth then went into civil service and worked at U.S. Army bases in Wisconsin, Ohio and California. They stayed in California after World War II and she worked at March Field. They returned to the tri-state area in 1948 and she worked in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as they were building the Cannelton Locks and Dam. She also worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Louisville. After retiring from civil service, she worked for the Tell City News where she, in later years, also wrote the rural news for Tobinsport. Ruth had also worked in the Perry County Auditor's Office. They maintained their farm until Earl's health declined in 1992. He passed away on December 20, 1996. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Russell, in infancy, Robert and John ""Sonny"" Burton; sisters, Cecile Goodson, Mildred Seibert, Agnes Burton and Alma McCoy. Surviving are his sisters, Thelma Carter, rural Cannelton and Jewell Harding, Canneton and many nieces and nephews, including Edith Adams of Tell City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 12, 2011, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in Lamb Cemetery in Tobinsport. Pastor Eddie Olberding will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 on Thursday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Friday at the funeral home. There will be an Order of Eastern Star memorial service at 6:30 PM on Thursday. There will be an Eastern Star service at 6:30 PM.
