Tell City, Indiana Russell W. McCallister, 94, passed away March 4, 2008 at 2:00 AM at Golden Living Center Lincoln Hills in Tell City, Indiana. Russell was born October 6, 1913 in Perry County, Indiana, son of the late Sherman McCallister and Nellie Chilton McCallister. He was united in marriage in the St. Michael rectory in Cannelton, Indiana on July 20, 1939 to Mildred (Ramsey) McCallister who preceded him in death in 2002. Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Edith Harmon and Mabel Horman and a brother, Clarence McCallister. Russell was a life-long Perry County farmer and skilled sorghum maker. He was a graduate of Tell City High School and enjoyed gardening, cooking maple syrup, caring for cattle and especially spending time with his family. He was a member of the Perry County Farm Bureau and Deer Creek Baptist Church, where he was a former trustee, deacon, song leader and taught Sunday School for over fifty years. He served on the ASCS, (Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service) where he performed spot-checking on farms in Southern Indiana. Russell is survived by: Four daughters, Marietta ""Nellie"" Peter and her husband, Richard, Tell City, Indiana Ruth Ann Brumfield and her husband, Robert, Tell City, Indiana Nancy Ludwig and her husband, William, Tell City, Indiana Angela McKain and her husband, Jerry, Custer, Michigan Two sons, Kenneth McCallister, Jacksonville, Florida Lloyd McCallister and his wife, Linda, Tell City, Indiana One brother, Robert McCallister, Speedway, Indiana One sister, Hazel Sawka, Walnut Creek, California Twenty grandchildren, Richard W., Darrell, Kevin, Scott and Doris Peter, Mary Jane Hagerdon, Susanne Greenland, Sarah Kleaving, Cindy Liebenow, Thomas, Keith and Kelly McCallister, Tammy Kemp, Kim Brown, Tara McCallister, Deborah Ludwig, Barbara McCabe, Karen Purvis, Lisa Kessens and Leslie McCallister. Thirty-seven great grandchildren, Renee, Alyssa, Bryce, Kyla, Lacey, Madelyn, Owen and Celena Peter, Craig Hagerdon, Emily and Evan Greenland, Tyler Kleaving, Jacob and Megan Liebenow, Thomas D., Kenneth E., Anna, Chase and Kelsey McCallister, Markus, Arika and Jennifer Kemp, Tabitha, Trisha and Trent Brown, Eli and Haven Lane, Aidan, Andrew and Alexa McCabe, Grace and Nathaniel Purvis, Carina and Collen Kessens, Mitchell Huck, Mason and Molly McCallister 4 Step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and three step great great grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, March 7, 2008 at Deer Creek Baptist Church in Tell City with burial in the church cemetery. Bro. Elmer Shelby will officiate. Visitation is from 2:00-8:00 PM Thursday and 9:00-10:30 AM Friday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Deer Creek Baptist Church, St. Michael Catholic Church or Golden Living Center Activity Fund.
