Roy A. Sturgeon, 80, passed away on October 25, 2021. He was born on February 28, 1941 in Perry County, son of Mitchell W. and Flora N. (Poehlein) Sturgeon. Roy was a 1959 graduate of Troy High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the early 1960's as both a medic and later as a chemical warfare specialist. Upon completion of his military service, he worked as a drywall specialist in Covington, Kentucky and the greater Cincinnati area in the 1970's. In 1978, he returned to Tell City where he owned and operated Sturgeon Drywall until 2002. He was ordained as a minister in 2003 and served as pastor of Liberty Tabernacle until 2010. Roy enjoyed football, hunting, fishing, hiking at German Ridge and teaching Bible studies. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Biscuit and Misty. Roy was united in marriage on December 9, 1978 to Paula Simpson who preceded him in death. His parents, a sister, Margaret Thomas and a brother, Eugene Young, also preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughter, Amber Sturgeon, Tell City; his companion, Alice Cummings and her family of Hawesville, Kentucky; brother, Walter Sturgeon (Cathy), St. Petersburg, Florida; sister, Louella Stroud, Tell City and best friends, Jim and Nancy Claycomb, Salvisa, Kentucky. A Celebration of Life will be announced by the family at a later date. Burial will be in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, assisted his family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Widow's Barrel Food Pantry.
