Ross Riley

Cannelton, Indiana –


William A. “Ross” Riley, 77, passed away on Friday, March 29, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville.


He was born in Perry County, son of William Henry Harrison Riley and Mary Elsie (Sturgeon) Riley. A 1965 graduate of Tell City High School, Ross enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening and watching sports.


He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was awarded a Purple Heart, a Combat Infantry Badge and an Army Commendation Medal with V Device. He had been wounded in Vietnam on June 19, 1967. Ross was a member of Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939. He also liked to visit with friends at American Legion Post #213.


Ross retired in 2006, as a correctional officer, from Branchville Correctional Facility where he had worked for 25 years.


Surviving is his daughter, Jessica Faucett, Evanston; step children, Gina Crowe (Tonya Rankin), Tobinsport and Adam Crowe, Bristow; grandchildren, Amanda Faucett, Jared Dupont, Alyssa, Adam, Austin and Bailee Crowe, Aubrey and Aiden Crowe and several nieces and nephews.


His parents and siblings, June Bunner Bamping, Arvin Bunner, Walter Bunner, Charles Bunner and Dennis Harlen Riley preceded him in death.


Ross requested to be buried alongside his parents in Chestnut Grove Cemetery. There will be no services at this time.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142 or the V.F.W. Post #2939.
