Roger Smith

Tell City, Indiana -

Roger D. Smith, 71, passed away on August 17, 2023, after having Covid Pneumonia.

He was born in 1952, son of Parvin, Sr. and Mable Lucille (Knapp) Smith. Roger graduated from Cannelton High School in 1970. He was united in marriage on October 7, 1972 to Patricia "Colleen" Collins at St. Paul Catholic Church.

He loved playing golf, fishing and watching westerns. Roger enjoyed walking his dogs around his neighborhood and eating at Julie's Caf. Some of his most fond memories were of coaching Little League and Babe Ruth, in both Cannelton and Tell City. He valued time spent with his family, especially with his sons and grandchildren for whom he was fondly known as "Pepaw".

He retired as a welder and was proud to be a member of Boilermakers Local #374, having worked at Sterling Boiler in Evansville and Maxon Marine, formerly in Tell City.

Surviving Roger is his wife of 50 years, Colleen Smith; sons, Adam D. Smith (Rhonda) Winterville, GA, Anthony J. Smith (Kate), Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Lucas, Caleb and Anna Smith, Winterville, GA; brothers, Parvin Smith, Jr. (Janet), Dale, Mike Smith (JoAnn), Tell City and Kerry Smith (Susan), Corydon; sister-in-law, Mary K. Smith-Cardinal; many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death, besides his parents, was a brother, Thomas L. Smith, Sr.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 PM on Saturday, August 19th, 2023, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with visitation from 2:00 PM until service time. Pastor Steve Bennett will be officiating.

Masks are optional and will be available at the funeral home. Roger's family has tested negative for Covid, more than once, and wanted family and friends that may be attending to know this.

Memorial contributions may be made to River's Edge Animal Shelter and Alzheimer's Association.
