Robert Sweeney

Cannelton, IN Robert H. Sweeney, 77, of Cannelton, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2009, at his home in Cannelton. Bob was born in Cannelton on June 3, 1932, son of the late William T. Sweeney and Lorene Doughty Sweeney. Bob served in the United States Army, and later was united in marriage to the former Betty Linne at St. Pius Catholic Church on February 12, 1955. He retired in 1989 from the Tell City Electric Department after twenty years of employment. Bob was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post #2939, the Harry G. Meyers American Legion, Post #142, the Disabled American Veterans and was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, boating, hunting, gardening, bowling and spending time with his family. Bob is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Betty Linne Sweeney Two daughters, Terri Winkler, Troy, Indiana Kathleen Merry, Cannelton, Indiana Three sons, Bob Sweeney, Tell City, Indiana Pat Sweeney, Tell City, Indiana Ed Sweeney, Troy, Indiana Four sisters, Marcella Yaggi, Tell City, Indiana Ida Mae Hafele, Cannelton, Indiana Sara K. Rexroat, Las Vegas, Nevada Elizabeth Jo Long, Brownwood, Texas One brother, Charles ""Kelly"" Sweeney, Tell City, Indiana Twelve grandchildren, Joshua and Hannah Sweeney, Adam and Amy Stilwell, Ryan Butler, Dalton Sweeney, Brandy and Danny Winkler, Angel Beertzer, John Michael, Kevin and Kelly Merry Eight great grandchildren A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Pius Catholic Church, Troy, Indiana with burial in Calvary Cemetery, with Rev. Barnabas Gillespie O.S.B. officiating. The VFW and the American Legion will conduct military graveside rites. Visitation is from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Monday and 8:30 - 9:30 AM Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City, Indiana, where a parish prayer service will be held at 7:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.
