Robert Peter

Tell City, Indiana Robert J. "Bob" Peter, 80, passed away, with his family at his side, on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. He was born in Tell City, on November 27, 1933, son of the late Edward J. and Mary Elsie (Holman) Peter. He excelled in football, while at Tell City High School, often making All-Conference. After graduation in 1951, Bob served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from Alcoa, in 1994, where he had worked for over thirty years. Bob was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church where he was an usher. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus #1172, Loyal Order of Moose #1424, American Legion Post #213, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939 where he was a member of the funeral detail. He was a kind, gentle man, loved by all. He enjoyed simple pleasures of life, especially fishing, playing euchre on Friday nights at the K of C and enjoying a beer at Braunie's on Saturday afternoon. Bob enjoyed Indiana University basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. He looked forward to weekend festivities with his kids and grandkids. Bob was blessed to have been reunited with his special friend, Betty Bryant. He is survived by his son, Brad Peter, his wife, Kelly, and their children, Brittany, Bobbi, Michael and Jessica; his daughter, Lori Hazelrigg, her husband, Rob, and son, Aaron; his son, Bart Peter, his wife, Holli, and their children, Baylie and Camryn and his daughter, Jamie Pruitt and her children, Jalynn and Devin. Bob had six great grandchildren, Savanah, McKenzie, Callie, Braxton, Sheila and Zoey. A great grandson, Cameron, preceded him in death. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Jim Peter (Ruth), Mary Etienne (Ivo), Helen Spencer, Rita Knust, Betty Hartz (Cal), Charlie Peter and Jane Huber (Tom). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the VFW. Father Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Friday and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM on Saturday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City. There will be a Knights of Columbus memorial service at 6:30 PM on Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Tell City High School Athletic Department.
