Rita Knust

Schnellville, Indiana - Rita E. Knust, 81, passed away September 28, 2016 at her home. She was born August 3, 1935 in Tell City, daughter of the late Edward J. and Mary Elsie (Holman) Peter. Preceding her in death was her husband of 57 years, Larry F. Knust, in 2014; a brother, Robert J. "Bob" Peter and brothers in law, Calvin Hartz and Ivo Etienne. Rita was a 1953 graduate of Tell City High School. She was united in marriage to Larry Knust on August 25, 1956 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. In 1999, she retired from Pine Ridge Elementary after 30 years as the school secretary. Rita was a member of Divine Mercy Parish at Sacred Heart in Schnellville and sang in the church choir. She was a member of Schnellville Community Club and a fifty year member of Schnellville Home Ec Club. Rita was a correspondent for the Jasper Herald. She enjoyed reading, playing cards, embroidering and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children; David J. (Deb) Knust, Richardson, Texas, Daniel L. (Angie) Knust, Newburgh, Gregory A. (Kathy) Knust , Schnellville, Rose M. (Aaron) Nealy, Depauw, and Renae A. (Ryan) Verkamp, Schnellville; brothers, James V. (Ruth) Peter and Charles A. Peter, both of Tell City; sisters, Mary Etienne, Helen Spencer, Betty Hartz, all of Tell City and Jane (Tom) Huber, Cannelton; fourteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; brother in law, Ernie Knust (Alene), Belleville, Michigan and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 AM EST Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Divine Mercy Parish at Sacred Heart in Schnellville, Indiana with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM EST Friday at Becher-Kluesner Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel and from 9:00 until 10:00 AM EST Saturday at the church. Rev. Christopher Droste will officiate. Huber Funeral Home, Tell City, Chapel, will be handling the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Divine Mercy Parish or Sacred Heart Choir.
