Richard Northerner

Tell City, Indiana Richard A. Northerner, 66, passed away May 15, 2016, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born in Perry County, Indiana September 3, 1949, son of the late William McKinley Northerner and Mary Magdalene (Kessans) Northerner, who survives. Also preceding him in death were two sons in infancy and a nephew, David W. Powers. Richard was a 1969 graduate of Tell City High School and was united in marriage to Debra Kay Craig on June 6, 1970, at St. Paul Catholic Church. He retired from the U.S. Navy and also from Branchville Correctional Facility after 20 years of Service. Richard was a member of VFW Post #2939, Alton American Legion and Loyal Order of Moose #1424. Richard was the curator of the VFW's Avenue of Flags and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. His grandchildren expressed fond memories of him being a good storyteller when he was babysitting and that he was gifted with the ability of eloquent speaking. Richard felt it an honor to be a community volunteer. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Debra "Kay" Northerner; mother, Mary Northerner; sons, Dennis Northerner (Kneka) Jacksonville, North Carolina, Gary Northerner (Becky), Rome and Jimmy Northerner (Avery), Tell City; sisters, Cathy Powers (Curt), Cannelton, Rosemary Lasher (Rodney), Tell City, Christine Lahee (Jeff), Tell City, Anna Northerner, Tell City; brothers, Doyle Northerner, Tell City, Paul Northerner, Tell City, Robert Northerner, Tell City and Arvin Northerner, Corydon; grandchildren, Dennis, Cheyenne, Dakota, Alexis, Brayden and Rilyn Northerner and Shay and Reagan Sayer and great grandchildren, Tyler Fulkerson and D.W. Northerner. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, where there will be military rites conducted by VFW. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday and from 9:00 until 11:00 AM Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
