Gentryville, Indiana - Richard A. "Dickie" DeWitt, 77, passed away at his home on April 1, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was born in Middletown, Ohio on June 3, 1944 to Luther and Stella (Bolin) DeWitt, who preceded him in death. Richard was a United States Army Veteran and was united in marriage on June 14, 1963 to Martha Russell. He retired as an electrician and also worked for United Minerals, where he was a mechanic. He really enjoyed his work in coal mines. Richard was a member of Gentryville Pentecostal Church where he had served as head trustee. He loved playing electric steel guitar at worship services. He had been a street commissioner for Gentryville and was known as a friend to everyone; always giving and especially willing to help those in need. Surviving is his wife of 58 years, Martha DeWitt, Gentryville; son, R. Wayne DeWitt (Tammy), Boonville; grandchildren, Stella Blair (Andy), Tamara DeWitt, Anthony DeWitt (Christen), Tara DeWitt, Jessica Ellis (Alan), Mariah DeWitt (Uriah Scott), Richi Adams (Mike) and Angela Bass-DeWitt; nineteen great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; step sister, Kathy Dunn, Middletown, Ohio and the brothers and sisters he was raised with, including, Melvin Bolin (deceased), Judy Polk, Tell City, Steve Lawalin (Shelly), Cannelton, Kenny Lawalin (Chris), Cannelton, Debbie Lawalin, Corydon, Karen Miller (Tim), Tell City, Randy Lawalin (Perri), Kentucky and Roger Lawalin (Stacie), Lamar. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CDT on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. His son, Pastor Wayne DeWitt will officiate. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, near Hatfield with military rites. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00-7:00 PM and on Wednesday from 12:00 until 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gentryville Pentecostal Church.
