Raymond Howell

Gatchel, Indiana Raymond Cletus Howell, 87, passed away on August 1, 2021, at Perry County Memorial Hospital. He was born December 13, 1933 in Perry County, son of the late Claude and Mary Emma (Pekinpaugh) Howell. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Margaret Sabelhaus, brothers, Donald and Andrew and step mother, Myrtle Howell. Raymond loved building and flying radio-controlled airplanes and was a founding member of the local Airmasters Club. He enjoyed driving his golf cart around Gatchel and was affectionately named "the mayor of Gatchel". Raymond was a life-long member of Lilly Dale Church of Christ, where he served on the cemetery committee many years. His fondest times were spent with his family, which included ten grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Raymond is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille (Bays), daughters Claudia DuPont (Daniel) of rural Tell City, Lora Purcell (Michael Scott) of rural Tell City, and son Eddy Howell (Jennifer) of Murphysboro, Illinois. Grandchildren Mandy Flohr (Chris), Zachary DuPont (Mistie), Seth DuPont (Samantha), Hannah Ratcliffe (Cory), Shayne Howell (Emily), Wesley Howell, Tyler Howell, Drew Howell (Hannah), Michael Ray Purcell (Laura), and Kayla Purcell. Raymond is also survived by 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A private family service will be held at Huber Funeral Home in Tell City with burial to follow in Lilly Dale Cemetery.
