Raymond Gunn

Cannelton, Indiana Raymond E. Gunn, 86, passed away at his home Sunday September 9, 2012. He was born July 8, 1926 in Neoga, IL son of the late Wyatt and Barbara (Neyenhaus) Gunn. Also preceding him in death was a grandson Joshua and a brother Floyd Gunn. A 1944 graduate of Cannelton High School, he was a U.S. Navy veteran serving in WWII. Ray was united in marriage on August 16, 1951 to Ruth M. Collignon, who survives. Along with his brothers, he owned and operated Gunn's Conoco and Standard stations then later owned Downtown Shell with his wife, Ruth. He also was a truck driver for Cantex Industries and worked for CanClay as a machinist until his retirement in 1987. Ray enjoyed spending time with family and friends, helping others, spending time in his workshop, riding motorcycles and playing cards. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ and helped with many projects there. Ray was also a member of SPEBSQSA barbershop chorus and quartets. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Ruth; daughters, Debbie Stemler (Kerry), Sellersburg, IN and Becky Biever (Steve), Evansville; son, Bill Gunn (Kim), Tell City; brother, Clifford Gunn, Tell City; 7 grandchildren, Mandy Archibald (Jacob), Abbey Stemler, Nick Biever (Rene'), Dustin Biever (Kelsey), Brooke McWhirter (Kasey), Kara Gunn and Trent Gunn; 8 great grandchildren, Bailey and Kaitlyn McWhirter, Wyatt and Bryce Biever, Emery and Barrett Archibald and Raelynn and Kaley Biever; extended family, Pat and Karen Richard, Shane and Jean Muir, and Wayne and Lynne Shick. Funeral services will be 11:00AM CDT Friday, September 14, 2012 at St. John's United Church of Christ in Cannelton , with Rev. Mike Thompson officiating . Prior to the service, military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939 and the Harry G. Meyers American Legion Post #142. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton and Friday from 10:00 AM until service time at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
