Ray Zoercher
Raymond “Ray” Zoercher, formerly of Cannelton, passed away on January 22, 2025, in Nacogdoches, Texas, after a brief illness.
He was born on April 13, 1944, spending his early years in Cannelton before his family moved to Jackson, MS, when he was in his teens. It was in Madison, MS, at the Strawberry Patch, where Ray managed the horse farm and his brother, Bob, ran the country store. It was here where his lifelong passion for horses began.
After graduating from Millsaps College, Ray spent a short time in Miami, FL and then moved to Lufkin, TX. Over the years, Ray became very well-known and respected as a breeder, trainer, and judge in the Arabian and Miniature Horse world.
Surviving is his loving partner, Mark Schoolcraft, his sister, Maureen Houle and brother, Robert Zoercher, along with many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Robert Zoercher and Iler Jean Mullen.
