Ralph Smith

Tell City, Indiana Ralph R. "Dick" Smith, 92, passed away April 16, 2017 at Oakwood Health Campus. Dick was born September 23, 1924 in Boonville, Indiana, son of the late Phillip and Maude (Branch) Smith. Also preceding him in death was his wife, Norma Jean (Smith) Smith; brothers, Kenneth "Jack", Russel and Walker "Snuffy" Smith; sisters, Elizabeth Hargrave, Gerona Mears, Rhoda "Becky" Hart, Evelyn Smith and Mary Davis. He was a World War II Army veteran earning a Purple Heart for his service. In April, 2016 he was selected to participate in the Honor Flight in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of Boonville High School and earned his Bachelors from Evansville College and Masters from Washington College in St. Louis. He taught math and science for Cannelton High School for 20 years, retiring in 1981. Dick was a member of Troy Methodist Church, and former member of American Legion Post 213, Boonville VFW, Disabled Veterans in Evansville and Retired Teachers Association He enjoyed gardening and singing with the Barbershop Quartet, where he attended the International Convention for eleven years in a row. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, his caregivers, Deb and Earl Parker and family, and their Yorki, Maesi Day. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Bill Reid will officiate. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery, Newtonville with military rites. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Troy Methodist Church.
