Cannelton, Indiana - Ralph Kendall, 82, passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was born in Cannelton on February 10, 1932. His parents were the late Elmer and Marie (McFarling) Kendall. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Carolyn Kendall. A 1950 graduate of Cannelton High School, Ralph was a corporal in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. He married Shirley Glenn on September 5, 1955, at St. Michael Catholic Church. In his younger days, Ralph enjoyed horses, barrel racing, hunting, fishing. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 16 years and in 1972, he and his wife purchased Freemans Grocery on Seventh Street in Cannelton. They owned and operated K-Market from 1972 until 1997. Surviving is wife of 59 years, Shirley Kendall; daughters, Kristine Bland (Bruce), Cannelton and Jonell "Jodi" Kleeman (Bret), Troy; son, Matthew Kendall (Misty), Leopold; brother, Ronald Kendall, Cannelton; grandchildren, Jeffery Hawkins (Martha), Kirstin Hawkins (Tim Campbell), Lacey Hawkins, Olivia Kleeman, Dex Kleeman, Kyle Kendall and Zachary Kendall; great grandchildren, Trenton Ingle, Alyssa Campbell and Madeline Hawkins and his dog, Tootsie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3:00 until 7:00 PM on Tuesday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Wednesday. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie, OSB will officiate. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Harry G. Myers American Legion Post #142 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #2939. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Cemetery or Perry County Animal Shelter.
