P.J. Davis

St. Croix, Indiana Porter Jasper "PJ" Davis, 84, passed away August 23, 2022 at his home in Apalona. He was born in Tell City, Indiana on January 2, 1938 to Chester L. and Anna C. (Wetzel) Davis. P.J. was a 1956 graduate of Tell City High School, a United States Navy veteran and served time in the Indiana Army National Guard. He was united in marriage on October 8, 1977 to Anita Ubelhor, who survives. P.J. retired in 2000 from Sterling Boiler and Mechanical, Evansville. He had also worked for the former Maxine Marine, sold insurance, owned the former Tell City Sign Company and most recently worked at Wal-Mart in the hardware department. P.J. was known for his pleasant demeanor; was always friendly, helpful and loved to small talk. He was a member of St. Isidore Catholic Church. P.J. enjoyed mowing grass, scratching lottery tickets, playing trumpet in the Crawford County Community Band, fishing and watching football. He loved to spend time with his family, friends and grandchildren. He especially liked supporting Vanessa and Audrey at music and sporting events. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Anita Davis, St. Croix; children and extended family, Josh Davis (Ashley), Evansville, Dana Bates (Ben), Evansville, Daniel Davis (Paula), Tell City, David Davis (Kim), Blytheville, AR, Christina Davis, Sikeston, MO, Clay Ewing (Barbara), South Bend, IN, Kris Ewing (Sharon), Westminster, SC, Gertie Leinenbach (Randy) and several grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Mildred Riley, Virginia Lee in infancy, Chuck, Robert and Raymond Davis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Isidore Catholic Church. Rev. Luke Waugh and Rev. Jeremy King will officiate. Burial, with military rites will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00-8:00 PM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and Friday 10:00-11:00 AM at the church.
