Cannelton, Indiana –
Paul Arthur Hay, 78, passed away on October 9, 2023 in Indianapolis.
He was born in Cannelton, son of Thomas J. and Louisa “Lula” (Gaesser) Hay. A 1963 graduate of Cannelton High School, Paul was a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in the 661st Radar Squad after training in electronics and ground radar.
Upon completion of his military duties, he was an avionics technician at the Indianapolis Airport for Comlux, Raytheon and Bombardier. Paul had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying and riding motorcycles.
Paul was the youngest of the twelve siblings making Hay family gatherings quite sizable. “Uncle Paul” was always pleasant and never became involved in any of the occasional family drama that can occur when you get generations of one family together. He was one of those well-liked and respected relatives that will be sorely missed.
He is survived by his brother, Jim Hay and sister, Judy Herzog (Norman “Nitz”) and many descendants of the Hay family.
His parents, wife, Phyllis and siblings, Harold (in infancy), Jack, Ralph, Tommy, Earl, Denny and Norman Hay, Ruthie Groves and Sue Horn preceded him in death.
A Memorial Mass is scheduled for 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Michael Cemetery where there will be military rites. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until service time at church. Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton Chapel, with be assisting with Paul’s wishes.
