Tell City, Indiana - Paul T. Berger, 78, passed away on Sunday, December 29, 2013, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. He was born in Perry County on August 20, 1935. His parents were the late Victor and Anna (Schwartz) Berger. Paul was united in marriage to Mary Louise Hildenbrand on June 6, 1959, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Fulda. He was a member of St. Mark's Catholic Church, IUOE Local #181, Knights of Columbus and Indiana Volunteer Firemans Association. Paul was a former member of Indiana National Guard and Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department where he had volunteered for over 31 years. He had been Fire Chief for several years and had been President of its Board of Directors. In 2000, Paul retired from BB Mining as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed gardening, tending cattle, taking care of his farm and watching his grandchildren in school and athletic events. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Louise Berger; daughter, Connie Berger, Tell City; sons, David Berger (Diane), Tell City, Frank Berger (Elisa), New Carlisle, and Daryl Berger (Bridgett), Tell City; sisters, Maryetta Boehm, Fulda and Loretta Seckinger, Fulda; brothers, Albert Berger, Ferdinand and Leroy Berger, Jasper; grandchildren, Teresa, Andrew, Courtney, Ryan and Olivia Berger; step grandchildren, April Susnjara and Matt Meunier; step great grandchildren; Aiden, Olivia and Cole Susnjara and Anna and Madison Meunier. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Thursday, January 2, 2014, at St. Mark's Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 8:00 PM on Wednesday and from 8:00 until 9:00 AM on Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Dennis Duvelius, Rev. Barnabas Gillespie, OSB and Rev. Anthony Vinson, OSB will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark's Catholic Church, St. Mark's Cemetery or Anderson Township Volunteer Fire Department.
