Opal Dixon

Cannelton, Indiana Opal Dixon, 90, passed away May 6, 2017 at Perry County Memorial Hospital. Opal was born December 14, 1926 to the late Thomas and Ethel (Lamkin) LaGrange. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Oscar Dixon, son, Larry Dixon, daughter, Jeana Dixon, and a brother, Francis LaGrange. Opal was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and St. Ann Society, Daughters of Isabella Nativity Circle 710 and Harry G. Myers American Legion Auxiliary Post #142. Opal was co-owner, along with her husband, Oscar, of the former Dixon's Building Supply in Cannelton. She was an avid quilter and seamstress. Opal was a much loved and cherished wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. Surviving are her children, Carolyn Dixon, Houston, TX, Ralph Dixon (Jessie), Cannelton, and Jan Smith (Tim), Tell City; grandchildren, Laura Pauckner (Jeremy), Jessica Dixon and Vanessa Ford (Josh); great grandchildren, Noah Dixon Pauckner, Reese and Brody Ford; a sister, Linda Hess (Bob, deceased), Tell City; and brothers, Raphael "Zeke" LaGrange (Shirley), Tell City and Gilbert "Gib" LaGrange (Debbie), Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, May 11, 2017 at St. Michael Catholic Church. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie, O.S.B and Rev. Sengole Thomas G. will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM with a D of I service at 6:00 PM and Thursday from 9:00-10:30 AM at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church Flower Fund, St. Michael Cemetery Fund or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
