Norman Chester Burns, 80, passed away on March 31, 2025, at Piedmont Columbus Regional in Columbus, GA.
He was born in Cannelton on March 9, 1945, the son of Orman and Lillian (Connor) Burns.
He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during Vietnam and was a member of the American Legion. Norman loved his family and friends, offering his help whenever he could. He enjoyed gardening, and his family, always sharing the fruits of his labor.
Norman was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church where he was always willing to pitch in and lend a helping hand whether it was selling raffle tickets or keeping the church grounds tidy. More recently, Norman fried the fish for the church’s Lenten fish fries until his health declined. He spent the past two and a half years living with his daughter in LaGrange, Georgia.
Surviving are his children, Shelly (Burns) Smith (Terry) and James Burns (Cassandra); four grandchildren Jessica McCubbins, Nathan Smith, Sadie Burns, and Oliver Burns and four great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Orman and Lillian Burns; wife Ada (Galey) Burns; sister Sharon Huffman, brother-in-law Leon Huffman, and three nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM CDT on Monday, April 7, 2025, at St. Michael Catholic Church with burial in Walker Cemetery in Branchville following his Mass and church luncheon. Rev. Steve Donahue will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until 10:30 AM on Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. There will be military rites at the cemetery conducted by American Legion Post #213.
