Michael W. “Mike” Spencer, 77, stepped into his eternal reward on April 16, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
He was born in Cannelton, Indiana on September 6, 1946, son of Chester and Bessie (Burden) Spencer.
Mike was a 1964 graduate of Cannelton High School and earned his Master’s Degree in education from Indiana University and started his teaching and coaching career at his alma mater, Cannelton. He had a coaching career that included Cannelton and Tell City baseball, assistant basketball coach at Tell City and an impressive football career that included, Tell City, Connersville, Perry Central, Corydon Central and Floyd Central High Schools. Mike was inducted into the Tell City High School Athletic Hall of Fame and Indiana High School Football Hall of Fame for his many years of dedication and coaching achievements.
He was united in marriage on December 27, 2004 to Teresa (Totten) Roberts, who survives. Together they were active members of Tunnel Hill Free Methodist Church in English. Mike was currently working at TurnKey Realty as a real estate broker.
Mike liked playing guitar, hunting, and he loved to fish… and fish and fish even more. His grandchildren were an important part of his life, and he enjoyed traveling to all their sporting events and activities.
Surviving is his wife of 20 years, Teresa Spencer; his children, Jenny Schmitt (Scott), Chris Spencer (Nichola), Heather Wathen (Justin) and Lindsay Tempel (Jacob); siblings, Lynn Spencer (Janet), Bobby Spencer (Judy), Terri Phegley (Jay) and Betty Northenor; brother-in-law, Bill Bunner; and grandchildren, Nathan, Camryn and Hunter Schmitt, Shayne Spencer, Liam, Logan and Landon Wathen, Connor and Alexander Tempel.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Donna (Ramsey) Spencer in 2001, and a sister, Marian Bunner in 2021.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CDT on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Tunnel Hill Free Methodist Church in English. Pastor Adam Stroud will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Tell City.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 12:00-8:00 PM CDT at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and on Saturday from 8:00-10:00 AM CDT at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Tell City, Perry Central or Corydon Central Athletics.
