Michael "Mike" Newton

Cannelton, IN Michael "Mike" Newton Michael "Mike" Newton, 65, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2017. He was born in Tell City, Indiana on January 10, 1952, son of Dorothy (Scheler) Newton Starkey and the late, Bernard Newton. Mike was married April 28, 2007 to the former Peggy Huber Gudal. A 1970 graduate of Tell City High School, Mike was a member of Union Local 374 United Boilermakers, retiring in 2007. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a former member of the Tell City Masonic Lodge #623, where he had held various offices. Mike enjoyed boating on the Ohio River, fishing and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed his volunteer work at Shubael Little Pioneer Village and spending time in the country. Surviving are his wife, Peggy Newton, Cannelton; his mother and stepfather, Dorothy and Gary Starkey, Tell City; daughters, Leah Riley (Justin), Maceo, KY and Emily Preston (Aaron), Cannelton; sons, David Gudal (Melissa), Fishers, IN, Ryan Gudal (Courtney), Greenwood and Christopher Gudal, Bloomington; brothers, Mark and Terry (Darlene) Newton; Tell City; five grandchildren, Bailey, Jackson, Bristol, Rhett and Tripp; one great grandson, Kasen; several nieces and nephews; and his faithful companion, his dog, Sam. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Rev. Barnabas Gillespie will preside. Visitation will be Saturday, March 11 from 2:00-7:00 PM and Sunday 10:00 AM until service time at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made be made to St. Michael Cemetery or Lange-Fuhs Cancer Center, Jasper.
