Melvin F. Weedman, 77, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Heart to Heart Hospice in Evansville surrounded by his family.
He was born in Cannelton on August 7, 1945, son of William "Mose" and Vadie E. (Sanders) Weedman.
A 1963 graduate of Cannelton High School, Mel enjoyed being with family, gardening and going fishing. In 1990, after 21 years of service, he retired, in 2011, from Indiana Dept. of Corrections in Branchville as Sergeant. He had also worked at Tell City Chair Company, Swiss Maid Foods and Coast to Coast Hardware. He also had served as a reserve deputy for the Perry County Sheriff's Department.
In 1998, Mel married the former Judith Pemberton. They were thankful to spend 25 years together before his passing.
Survivors include his wife, Judy Weedman; children, Shannon Strack (Andrew), Bethpage, TN and Steven M. Weedman, Tell City (Jason Pryor of Providence, KY); step daughter, Becky Weintraut (Andy), New Harmony; sister, Wanda Kellems, Tell City; seven grandchildren, Katie (Steve), Melissa, Timmy, Tylar (Mackensey), Abbey, Alexandria (Cody) and Paige and seven great grandchildren.
Mel's parents and siblings, William Donald Weedman, in infancy, Lajuana Cobb, Verna Elizabeth Weedman and Anna "Lucille" Mathena preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM CDT on Monday, July 3, 2023, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in New Cliff Cemetery in Cannelton. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time.
Memorial contributions may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice.
