Tell City, Indiana Melvin F. Bolin, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper. He was born in Tell City, Indiana on April 15, 1937 to the late Emma (Layman) and Stanley Bolin, Sr. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Diana (Russell) Bolin; daughter, Kathy Bolin Embry; sisters, Verna Lee Thomas-Renfro, Maytha Haaff and Stella DeWitt; brothers, Kenneth, Norman,James and Stanley, Jr., Bolin. Melvin was a U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force veteran. Melvin retired in 2011 from Heritage Hills High School where he was a custodian for 27 years. He was a kind, gentle man that enjoyed reading western books, eating sweets and attending church at House of Prayer. Melvin also enjoyed writing gospel songs and sharing them in churches all around the Tri-state. Several of his songs are still sung today with the same heartfelt message they were written with. He is survived by his wife, Peggy (Nix) Hess Bolin, Tell City; children, Douglas (Suzette) Bolin, Holland, IN; Kevin (LaDonna) Bolin, Chrisney, IN, David (Lisa) Bolin, Huntingburg, IN, Darrell (Robin) Bolin, Owensboro, KY; step-sons, Harold A. Hess, III, Cannelton, IN and Jeff (Sonja) Hess, Tell City, IN; sister, Bertha(Lloyd) Lawalin, Cannelton, IN; 19 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Pastor Scott Thomas and Rev. Gail Russell will officiate. Burial will follow in Bolin Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 2:00-8:00 PM CST and Saturday 9:00-11:00 AM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
