Mauretta Gruver

June 17, 1933 — January 1, 2022

Grandview, Indiana Despite always telling us she'd live to be 100, Mauretta "Rita" Gruver passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022 at the age of 88. We suppose that God needed someone to help run things up there. Rita was born June 17, 1933 in Ohio County, Kentucky to the late Weber and Violet Allen. After relocating to northwest Indiana as a child, Rita was united in marriage to her first husband, Rex Greenland, in 1955. While Rex pursued his dream of establishing the RW Greenland Company, Rita was busy with three incredible children. She taught us all hard work, respect, and humility. She is also responsible for our family's quick wit, stubbornness, and severe lack of patience. Her grandchildren always accused her of cheating at Sorry, but she went out keeping that little secret. After Rex's death, Rita was married to Walden "Wally" Gruver, and later relocated to Tell City. She is survived by those three incredible children, Barbara "Bobbi" Oost (Dave), Bruce Greenland, and Joyce Stath (Gary), her husband Wally Gruver, brother Merle "Sonny" Allen (Phyllis), grandchildren Kelly Fordyce (Cory Cook), Erin Fordyce (Nadi Neycheva), Morgan Wheatley (Ethan), Bethany Stiles (Ben), Emily Greenland, Andy Peter (Taya Franchville), and Evan Greenland. Rita was especially proud of her great-grandchildren, Layne and Rhett Cail, Kinley Fordyce, Paisley Cook, and Ruby Mauretta Stiles. Rita was preceded in death by her first husband, parents, grandson Stephen Fordyce, brother and sister-in-law, Davis and Loretta Allen, and two brothers in infancy. Visitation will be Monday, January 3, 2022 from 3:00 - 5:00 PM CST, with services at 5:00 PM. Paul Alvey will officiate. Rita and her family will then travel home to Northwest Indiana where burial will take place at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, Indiana. The family would like to express our sincere appreciation to Dr. Sheryl Ziegler, Perry County Memorial Hospital Oncology Dept, Heart to Heart Hospice, especially Natalie, who made our last days with mom so beautiful, and Julie, Jamie, and Pat for helping us say goodbye. If you would like to honor Rita, please make a donation to Meade County (KY) Special Olympics in the name of Evan, Perry County Special Olympics, or the Heart to Heart Hospice Foundation, https://www.htohhfoundation.org/.
