Matthew W. “Matt” Terry, 61, passed away on December 1, 2024, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
He was born on September 25, 1963, to Garr and Kathleen (Morgan) Terry.
Matt had worked for 36 years at Maxwell Brothers Lumber, in Hawesville, before his health forced him to retire.
He enjoyed hiking, walking, watching his TV shows with his wife, traveling, bowling, fishing and rooting for IU football and basketball and the New Orleans Saints.
Matt loved hot and spicy foods and would hold hot sauce contests with his kids and grandkids. He would also like to hide valuables in places you would never imagine. Most importantly, Matt was a family man who enjoyed family time and cherished every moment they all shared. He fondly referred to his nine-year-old grandson, Kaeson, as his best friend, other than his wife. Matt will be remembered for his unique personality and the love he gave to everyone.
Surviving is his wife of 43 years, Brenda “Gayle” Terry, Owensboro, KY; his children, Thomas Terry (Pam), Cantonment, Florida, Cassandra Terry (Brandon), Owensboro, KY, Dustin Terry (Mandy), Philpot, KY and Derick Terry (Dakota), Owensboro, KY; siblings, Johnny Terry (Missy), Trish Laswell (Frank), Becky Moore (Dean) and Ralph Terry (Lisa); grandchildren, Kaydence, Nevaeh and Skyler Terry, Keshawn (Cheyenne), Brooklyn, Kelyn and Kaeson Brown, Drake and Gabe Burton, Ryan, Bryson, Jordan and Caitlyn Terry and Averey Stewart, Summer, Autumn and Leelen Terry and Domonick, Treyton, the late Darius, Zaylah and Landon, knew him as papaw, but are just a few of the many great nieces and great nephews he had, along with several nieces and nephews. Matthew became a great- great uncle on October 25, 2024.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Donna Terry and Ruth Henry; mother-in-law, Marie Butler; brother-in-law, Ricky Butler and nephew/grandson, Darius Watkins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM CST on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3:00-7:00 PM CST and Thursday from 9:00-11:00 AM CST at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel.
