Tell City, Indiana - Mary Jane Malone, 70, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017. She was born in Tell City on November 24, 1946, daughter of Alvin L. Malone and the late Mary Gertrude (Rogier) Malone. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Katherine Malone and a niece, Staci Malone. Mary Jane's love of education started at St. Mark Grade School. She enjoyed learning and decided to continue her passion to become a teacher after graduating from Tell City High School in 1964. Mary Jane graduated from Indiana State University in 1968 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and later received her Master's Degree from Ball State University. She retired from Garrison Elementary School, in Richmond, Indiana, after serving the community for 37 years as an elementary teacher. While living in Richmond, she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Sigma Delta Pi, Holy Family Catholic Church and Indiana Retired Teacher's Association. She later moved back to Perry County to be near her parents and assist with their care and became a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. Mary Jane enjoyed monthly lunches with friends, crossword puzzles, Sudoku, reading and being around her family. She valued time spent with her dad watching ballgames, pretending to enjoy them as much as he did. Surviving are her daugthers, Melissa Hartzell, Atkinson, North Carolina and Heather Malone (Bryan Taylor), Hampstead, North Carolina; father, Alvin Malone, Tell City; sisters, Dorothy Steen (Derek), Tell City and Deann Malone, Evansville; brothers, Joe Malone (Dorothy), Tell City, Jerry Malone (Suellen), Tell City, John Malone (Charlotte), Tell City, Pat Malone (Darlene), Cannelton, Paul Malone (Cindy), Tell City and Bob Malone, Tell City; grandchildren, Paige Malone, Zachary Malone, Robert Hartzell, Kayla Smith and Kimberly Malone and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 PM CDT on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at St. Mark Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM on Monday and from 10:00 until 11:30 AM on Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark Church, Perry County Relay For Life or Mary Jane Malone Endowment Fund established through the Perry County Community Foundation.
