Tell City, Indiana Mary Rita Goffinet, 83, passed away on April 9, 2021 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in Cannelton, Indiana on December 15, 1937 to James Homer and Mary Mabel (French) Smallwood. A 1955 graduate of Cannelton High School, Mary Rita was united in marriage to Robert L. "Bob" Goffinet on September 1, 1958 at St. Michael Catholic Church. She worked as a court reporter at Perry County Circuit Court for five years before starting a family. Rita was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and Daughters of Isabella. She was a former member of Mrs. Jaycees, Cannelton Business and Professional Women, Cannelton Historical Society, served as a SIRS board member, was Indiana State Representative for the March of Dimes and member of Hoosier Heights County Club where she was previous President of the women's golf league. She enjoyed playing golf and bridge, gardening and fishing. Rita was well known by her family and friends as the hostess of many parties at "The Shack". Her favorite times were being with friends, family and especially her grandchildren. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Bob Goffinet, Tell City; her children, Jon Goffinet (Ginger), Nick Goffinet (Mikki) and Lisa Miller (Scott), all of Tell City; grandchildren, Will and Beau Goffinet, Sydney, Katie and Taylor Goffinet, Maryann and Ella Miller and her beloved dog, Frankie. Preceding her in death were her parents; siblings, Kenneth Smallwood, Hazel Harris, an infant girl and infant James Smallwood; and a niece, Debbie Potridge. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM CST on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Rev. Father Tony Hollowell will officiate. Entombment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3:00-7:00 PM and Wednesday 9:00-10:00 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to UMDF.org or St. Elizabeth/Coleman Pregnancy and Adoption Services. Please know that certain family members are highly allergic to fragrant flowers and plants, and if you wish to send them, they will be held for the family after the service.
