Mary Ettensohn

Tell City, IN Mary Catherine Ettensohn, 89, of Tell City, passed away April 29, 2016 at Oakwood Health Campus. Mary Catherine was born in Cannelton, Indiana on August 23, 1926, daughter of the late John L. Coyle and Cordelia Birchler Coyle. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Natalie Pfeiffer, Margaret May, Ruth Ann Detzer and brother, Robert Coyle. Mary Catherine was a 1945 graduate of Cannelton High School. On January 12, 1948 she was united in marriage to Leo F. "Jock" Ettensohn, who died September 13, 1968. Together, they owned and operated the Sunlight Hotel in Cannelton, where she was involved in all areas of management. She loved tending her own flower garden, and especially enjoyed decorating for special events at the Sunlight. Mary Catherine also served as dispatcher for the Cannelton Police and Fire Department for many years. After retirement from the hotel, she was employed in food service at Perry County Memorial Hospital, then moved to Twilight Towers in Tell City where she served as food service coordinator. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, the St. Ann Society and the Daughters of Isabella, Nativity Circle #710. Mary Catherine brought joy to nursing home residents by calling bingo for many years. She is survived by her son, Rev. John Mark Ettensohn, OMI, Belleville, IL and her grandson, Mark David Ettensohn, Sacramento, CA; her great granddaughter, Ellie Ettensohn and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church in Cannelton with burial in St. Michael Cemetery. Rev. John Mark Ettensohn will officiate and the Daughters of Isabella will serve as honor guard. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM Sunday and 8:30-9:30 AM Monday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street, Tell City. Fr. John Mark will lead a wake service at 6:00 PM Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Michael Catholic Church. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.huberfuneralhome.net.
