Mary Clayton

Tell City, Indiana Louise was born August 3, 1931 in Jamestown, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Johnson and Earlin (Pruett) Johnson. Louise was married to Hugh Ross Clayton on December 20, 1949 in Jamestown, Kentucky. Hugh passed away in 2003. Also preceding her in death were two sisters, Evelyn Slater and Willa Coe and five brothers, Edgar, Conley, Hugh Frank, Tate and Glenn Johnson. Louise was employed several years as dispatcher at the Tell City Police Department in the 1970s, then later worked as a purchasing agent at Barmet Industries in Rockport, Indiana. She did substitute teaching for the Perry Central School Corporation. Louise loved her flower gardens and was an avid quilter. Her quilts have been displayed at the Tell City Library during the annual Schweizer Fest and she was featured in an article, ""Portraits of a Full Life"" in the Evansville Courier in January,2004, telling of her collection of pictures and family keepsakes in her home. She has always enjoyed watching her sons and grandsons playing sports, and especially watching her beloved University of Kentucky games. Louise was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #272 and the United Methodist Church in Hawesville, Kentucky, where a bible fund was established in her honor by the church members. She was a strong supporter of the United Methodist Church Children's Home. In the past few years Louise has enjoyed oil painting. Her sons have created personalized Christmas cards featuring her first oil painting, a barn scene from her brother's farm. Louise is survived by two sons, Hugh Ross Clayton, Jr. and his wife, Kathy of Tell City, Indiana and Noel Clayton and his wife Brenda of Owensboro, Kentucky, two sisters, Nova Jean Plummer, Louisville, Kentucky and Bertrenia Cochran, Ludlow, Kentucky, two brothers, Bert Johnson, Jamestown, Kentucky and G.C. Johnson, Jr., Jamestown, Kentucky. There are five grandsons, Tim, Russell, Greg, Matt and Kyle Clayton. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM C.S.T. Sunday at United Methodist Church, Hawesville, Kentucky with burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Tell City, Indiana. Rev. Dan Smith will officiate. Visitation is from 2-8 PM E.S.T Saturday at Huber Funeral Home, 1139 12th Street and from 12:30 until 1:30 C.S.T. Sunday at the church in Hawesville.
