Tell City, Indiana - Marjorie R. Litherland, 89, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at Oakwood Health Campus. She was born on September 1, 1920, in Perry County, near Gerald. Her parents were the late Noah and Rebecca Ruth (Shoemaker) Trainer. Also preceding her in death was a brother, Rodney Trainer, a sister, Kathleen Kaufman Chaput and a brother in infancy. A 1939 graduate of Cannelton High School, Marjorie was united in marriage on June 29, 1940, to George Joseph Litherland. He passed away on October 28, 1988. She worked at the Indiana Cotton Mill in Cannelton and retired from General Electric after twenty five years of service. Marjorie was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Cannelton where she taught Sunday School in the late 1940's and 1950's and sang soprano in the church choir. She was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post #2939 and was a volunteer at Perry County Memorial Hospital. She was a former member of Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. One of her many passions were art, especially oil painting. She studied art at the University of Evansville and taught art classes in her home after she retired. Marjorie enjoyed ceramics, making some unusual pieces in her own kiln. She loved hunting, fishing and camping. She was the first woman to hunt and kill a deer in Indiana after they were reintroduced in the early 60's. She always looked forward to traveling to California to visit her sister and her mother's sisters and their children. Marjorie had traveled to all of the states within the continental United States. These travels gave her many ideas for her art projects that she could work on with her husband, George. Surviving: Daughter - Bonita Ballis, Tell City Son - George ""Buddy"" Litherland, Jr. and his wife, Marilyn, Jasper Grandchildren - Terria Ballis Zuelly, Chris Ballis and Nikole Litherland Roberts 7 Great Grandchildren Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 17, 2009, at St. John's United Church of Christ in Cannelton, with Rev. Mike Thompson officiating. Burial will be at Carr Cemetery in Gerald, Indiana. Visitation will be from 3:00 PM until 8:00PM on Friday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel and from 9:00 AM until service time on Saturday at church. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ.
