Marie Smith

Tobinsport, Indiana Marie Smith, 96, passed away February 27, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville with family by her side. She was born April 16, 1921 in Gatchel, Indiana, daughter of the late August and Mary Frances (James) Marchand. Also preceding her in death was her husband Maurice Conrad Smith, infant son Maurice William Smith, great grandson, Steven Thomasson and sisters, Martha Sprinkle and Cornelia Sprinkle. Marie was a graduate of Tell City High School and worked at General Electric for 33 years. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. In her younger years, Marie played and sang in a musical group known as Faye's Follies, where they entertained locally and performed at the State Fair. She enjoyed music especially playing the harmonica, quilting, needle point, baking and being with family. She is survived by her daughter, Mary K. Thomasson (Ron), Cannelton, grandchildren, Stacy Robbins (Brad), Gatchel, Maurice Poehlein (Nancy), Tobinsport, five great grandchildren, Alexus and Amity Knasel, Kaitlyn, Callie and Kelsey Poehlein. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 9, 2018 at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Duvelius will officiate. Visitation will be from 2:00 until 7:00 PM Thursday, March 8 and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM Friday, March 9 at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul Catholic Church.
