Tell City, Indiana - Margaret L. Simpson, 81, passed away on Friday, April 29, 2011, at Golden Living Center. She was born in Bloomington, Illinois, on June 17, 1929. Her parents were the late Robert and Louline (Phelps) Streeper. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Helen Brown; brothers, Charles Henning, in infancy and Bill Henning; step daughter, Sandra Davidson; and a brother-in-law, Donald Thompson. She lived in the Rome community for 26 years before moving to Tell City. Margaret married Gene Simpson in June, 1982, at First United Methodist Church in Tell City. He passed away in 2001. She was a member of the Rome United Methodist Church, William Tell Senior Citizens, Perry County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Post #213 Auxiliary, Oakwood Executive Club, Visiting Nurse Association, Perry County Retired Senior Volunteer Program, a life member of VFW Post #2939, where she had served as president, senior vice president, junior vice president, treasurer, chaplain, trustee and secretary. Margaret retired from Tell City Chair Company, in 1991, where she was employed for over 22 years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, volunteer work, crocheting, dancing, reading and working with flowers. Surviving are her sons, Kenneth Hanks (Anissa) and Dennis Hanks (Lori), both of Tell City; grandchildren, Randall, Megann, Russell, Brandon, Chelsea and Kyle; sisters, Inous Stillwell, Cloverport, Kentucky and Debra Thompson, Winter Haven, Florida; step daughters, Linda Applegate, Tell City and Carol Ann Simpson, Washington, Indiana; and a step son, Michael Simpson, Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, May 2, 2011, at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 until 7:00 PM on Sunday and from 9:00 AM until service time on Monday. Pastor Sharon Summers will officiate. There will be a VFW Auxiliary memorial service at 6:00 PM on Sunday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to Rome United Methodist Church.
