Lowell E. Gladish, 93, passed away on January 14, 2025, with his family alongside him.
He was born in Petersburg, Indiana on December 10, 1931, the son of Courtney W. and Katherine O. Gladish. Lowell was a 1950 graduate of Petersburg High School and later earned his bachelor's degree in geology from Indiana University. On July 23, 1955, he was united in marriage to Marilyn Louise Cole in Vincennes, Indiana. A United States Army veteran, Lowell served his country as a 2nd Lieutenant at Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1955-1957.
He and his wife lived in Worthington, Indiana for 49 years before settling in Jasper, Indiana in their later years. Lowell was an active member of Folsom Memorial United Methodist Church and the Lions Club while living in Worthington and the Elks Club in Linton, Indiana. He and Marilyn later joined Shiloh United Methodist Church while living in Jasper. Lowell retired from Citizens Gas and Coke Utility, presently Citizens Energy Group, where he was the Director of Underground Storage at Lone Tree Station. After his retirement, he continued his love of natural gas exploration and storage by doing consulting work for the country of Denmark.
Lowell and Marilyn were blessed to have been able to spend twenty-six winters in the Punta Gorda, Florida area where he loved to fish, play golf, and host family and friends. Lowell and Marilyn also travelled the world, enjoying trips to Ireland, England, France, Italy, Denmark, Russia, and many destinations throughout the United States. In addition to golf and fishing, Lowell also enjoyed photography, playing Bridge, and writing. He published two books: A Few Fish Stories and It’s Not Easy. As an Indiana University graduate, Lowell was a member of the IU Alumni Association and an avid IU sports fan, especially football and basketball. Surviving him are his wife of nearly 70 years, Marilyn Gladish; sons, Rick Gladish (Debbie) and Rob Gladish (Tina); grandchildren, Cameron Gladish (Mollie), Caitlyn Graber, Rachel Roark (Chris), Kari Byers (Steven) and Joe Gladish; great grandchildren, Kathryn, Eliza and Gwen Gladish, Oaklan Graber, Breckin and Brennon East, Kaden Roark (Conner), Terissa Cravens (Caleb), McKenzie Roark and Beck Byers and great-great grandchildren, twins, Cash and Charlie Cravens.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM CST on Saturday, January 18, 2025, with visitation from 12:00 PM until service time. Pastors Paul Alvey and Lowell’s grandson, Cameron Gladish, will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation of Indiana, Riley Hospital for Children, or Sojourn House of Bloomington, Indiana.
