Louis Kraus

Tell City, Indiana - Louis E. "Louie" Kraus, 87, passed away June 1, 2017, at his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren after a struggle with metastatic prostate cancer and liposarcoma. He was born February 21, 1930 on the family farm near St. Mark's, son of the late William F. and Eleanor (Butterman) Kraus. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 62 years Suzanne (Goble) Kraus in 2014, two sisters, Mary Thelander and his twin Marcella Schaefer and son-in-law, Steve Whitaker. Louis was a 1948 graduate of Tell City High School and was a veteran of the Unites States Army. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Suzanne Goble at St. Patrick's Cathedral in El Paso, Texas. He had worked at General Electric and retired from Alcoa where he worked in mechanical maintenance. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus #1172 and American Legion Post #213. Louie valued spending time with his family and visiting with friends. He enjoyed the simplicity of being outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, gardening or working in his yard. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards, cooking and wine making. Surviving him are his daughters; Stephanie Whitaker (Joe Dickman), Tell City, Gretchen Durbin (Daniel), Louisville, Kentucky and Dr. Sarah Roberts (Philip), Alpharetta, Georgia; son, Greg Kraus, Tell City; six grandchildren, Jeanine Kraus, Andrew Kraus, Morgan Whitaker, Caitlin Durbin, Chloe Roberts and Natalie Roberts; sister, Catherine Bartholomew, Louisville, KY; brother, Frank Kraus (Lois), Tell City; brother-in-law, Dan Goble, Jr. (Dorothy) and good friend, Allen Seamon of Santa Claus. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, where there will be military rites. Rev. Sengole Thomas G. will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from 12:00 until 6:00 PM and from 8:30 until 9:30 AM on Monday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City Chapel. There will be a K of C service memorial service at 6:00 PM on Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Cemetery or Heart to Heart Hospice.
